How much does a spruce-edged board cost?

The price of this type of product depends on a number of factors: 1. Moisture content (the lower the moisture content, the more expensive the material) 2. Board grade (the grade depends on the number of knots per linear metre) 3. The height and width of the product.

Properties and uses of edged boards.

Reliability, thermal insulation and other qualities of edged boards in  primarily depend on the origin of the material. The highest quality and most durable types  of edged boards are produced from coniferous tree species. Spruce is considered the most common material. Spruce edged boards are frequently used in construction work. The main drawback of spruce is the difficulty of processing it: the fact is that there are a huge number of knots on the surface of the spruce trunk.

Furthermore, spruce does not exhibit particularly high resistance to the onset and subsequent spread of rot. As spruce is less durable than pine, spruce edged boards are most often used not in construction work but for interior finishing (panelling, floorboards, and decorative timber)..

How to choose edged planks and where to buy them?

The choice of edged timber depends on where it will be used and what it is intended for. If it is for rough work, roof battens or roof decking, then unedged timber will suffice. However, if it is for finishing work, such as walls, floors, or the construction of pavilions, saunas or gazebos, it is better to choose edged timber with the required moisture content and grade. The grade depends on the number of knots and the timber’s cut.
